In January 2024, Google commenced construction on a new data centre in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, marking a significant $1 billion (£790 million) investment in the UK’s digital infrastructure. Situated on a 33-acre site purchased in 2020, this facility aims to bolster computing capacity for businesses across the nation, particularly supporting advancements in artificial intelligence and ensuring reliable digital services for Google Cloud customers. Aligned with Google’s sustainability goals, the data centre is designed to operate on carbon-free energy by 2030, incorporating provisions for off-site heat recovery to benefit the local community. This development is expected to generate both construction and technical employment opportunities locally, reflecting Google’s ongoing commitment to the UK’s technological growth. We are currently undergoing a huge After Builder’s Clean Project at the site.
